Who It Is For

When the problems are spread across the mouth.

Patients who come to the Tysons Corner office for a reconstruction usually have several of these at once, and one tends to lead to the next:

  • Teeth worn down, cracked or broken in several places
  • Several teeth missing, with the bone under the gaps receding
  • Gum disease: gums that bleed or recede, teeth that loosen
  • A bite that no longer meets evenly
  • A denture that slips, or old crowns and bridges that are failing

If the examination shows that only one part of the mouth needs work, the plan stays that size. You hear that at the first visit, rather than being sold a full rebuild.

Suite 220

Surgery and the lab, on one floor in Tysons.

The Tysons Corner office has six surgical suites, with its dental laboratory down the hall. In a full-mouth case that means the implants are placed, and the teeth that go on them are designed, milled and fired, without the work leaving the building.

When a provisional needs reshaping or a shade is not quite right, the lab corrects it in days rather than weeks. Over a long treatment, that is where appointments are saved.

  • Both jaws scanned in 3D before anything is planned
  • Implants placed through guides printed from the scan
  • Crowns, bridges and arches milled and fired on site

Your Visits

Four stages at the Tysons Corner office.

01

Evaluation and scan

Time with Dr. Nahlah, a full examination and a cone-beam scan of both jaws. You leave knowing your options, what each costs and roughly how long it takes.

02

The design, approved

Shape, shade and bite are settled for the whole mouth, with a free digital preview of the result. No tooth is prepared until you approve it.

A sedation case under way at the practice03

Foundations first

Gum disease is treated and failing teeth are removed. Where the bone is too thin for an implant it is grafted, which adds several months of healing.

04

Teeth, in stages

Implants go in through printed guides under nitrous oxide or oral sedation; then crowns, bridges and arches come from the lab down the hall, fitted to your bite.

The Specialist

Why a prosthodontist leads a full-mouth case.

Rebuilding mouths is the specialty

Prosthodontics is the dental specialty in replacing and restoring teeth, and full-mouth rehabilitation is part of its three years of training after dental school.

Board-certified since 2013

Dr. Nahlah has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics since 2013, and he teaches the residents of Virginia Commonwealth University's prosthodontics program.

The surgery and the teeth

He places the implants and restores them himself, so each post is positioned for the tooth it will carry and the bite is designed as one.

18,000 implants, 15,000 arches

More than 18,000 implants placed and over 15,000 arches restored since he began practicing in 2003.

Questions

Full-mouth reconstruction in McLean: questions.

Where is full-mouth reconstruction done in McLean?
At Suite 220, 7901 Jones Branch Drive, near Tysons Corner: the second floor, with parking under the building. The scan, the implant surgery and the lab work all happen there. The Tysons Corner office →
How long does a full-mouth reconstruction take?
It depends on what the plan holds. Crowns and veneers on sound teeth take a few appointments; an implant needs about four months to fuse with the bone, and grafting adds several months before it. Your timeline is written down at the first consultation.
Is a full-mouth reconstruction the same as All-on-4?
Not necessarily. All-on-4 rebuilds a whole arch on four implants and is one way to do it. Where natural teeth can be kept, a reconstruction crowns, bridges or veneers them instead, and implants replace only the teeth that are missing.All-on-4 in McLean →
Does insurance cover full-mouth reconstruction?
Most PPO dental plans are accepted, and the office files the claims for you. What insurance and financing leave for you to pay is set out with the plan at the consultation, before anything starts.Insurance and financing →
Can I be sedated for the surgery?
Yes: nitrous oxide, or oral sedation for longer visits, given at the McLean office by the practice's own team. IV sedation is not offered, and after oral sedation someone needs to drive you home.Sedation options →
How long does the work last?
Looked after, a long time: a crown lasts fifteen years or more, and implants are designed to last decades. Implant work carries a five-year warranty, kept by a cleaning every six months. The five-year warranty →
