Sometimes a tooth needs a small adjustment rather than a full crown. An inlay replaces an inside portion; an onlay restores a cusp.

And knowing when to stop

A bad bite is functional, not cosmetic. If that is what is wrong, you will be told at the evaluation instead of having porcelain fitted over it.
