Is It For You

The mouths a full rebuild is planned for.

Most patients who come to Duke Street for a reconstruction have several of these problems together, and they are often linked: a lost tooth lets the bone beneath it recede and the teeth beside it drift.

  • Teeth worn down, cracked or broken across both jaws
  • Gaps from several lost teeth, or a bridge that has failed
  • Gums that bleed or pull back, and teeth that have loosened
  • Upper and lower teeth that no longer meet evenly
  • A denture that rubs or slips, and needs adhesive to stay in

Whether the whole mouth needs rebuilding, or only one arch, is settled by the examination and the scan at your first visit.

The First Visit

What the first visit on Duke Street settles.

A reconstruction is priced from your own mouth, so the first consultation in Alexandria is where the plan and its price are worked out.

  • An examination and a cone-beam scan of both jaws
  • A free preview of how the finished smile will look
  • Each option for your mouth, with its price, in writing
  • Insurance checked and claims filed; financing if you want it

Bring any plan, quote or X-rays from another practice: a second opinion here costs nothing.

The Duke Street Office

What 2855 Duke Street holds for a full rebuild.

A lab in the building

Crowns, bridges and full arches are designed and milled in the Alexandria office, as at Tysons Corner, so shade and fit are settled in person.

Guided by the scan

Each implant is planned on the cone-beam scan of both jaws and placed through a guide printed from it, at the planned angle and depth.

Sedation for long visits

Nitrous oxide or oral sedation, given by the practice's own team, for the longer surgical appointments. IV sedation is not offered.

One team, two offices

Dr. Nahlah and the same team treat patients at both offices, so the care on Duke Street is the care at Tysons Corner.

In Stages

How the work is ordered.

A reconstruction is built in the sequence the design sets.

  • Gum disease treated first
  • Failing teeth removed, and bone grafted where it is thin
  • Implants placed where teeth are missing
  • Crowns, bridges or veneers on the teeth that are kept
  • The final teeth fitted and balanced to your bite

Implants take about four months to fuse before the teeth that go on them are fitted. With All-on-4, most patients leave surgery wearing fixed provisional teeth while the implants heal.

The Specialist

One prosthodontist, from the first scan to the last crown.

Prosthodontists train for three years after dental school in replacing and restoring teeth, and rebuilding a whole mouth is the core of that work.

At Duke Street, Dr. Nahlah plans each reconstruction, places the implants and fits the final teeth, so no part of the case is handed to someone else.

  • Diplomate, American Board of Prosthodontics, since 2013
  • Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists
  • More than 18,000 implants placed
Questions

Full-mouth reconstruction in Alexandria: questions.

Who carries out full-mouth reconstruction at the Alexandria office?
Dr. Esam Nahlah, board-certified in prosthodontics, the dental specialty in rebuilding teeth. He plans each case at 2855 Duke Street and restores it, with the teeth made in the lab in the building.Meet Dr. Nahlah →
How much does full-mouth reconstruction cost in Alexandria?
It depends on how many teeth need crowns, bridges or implants, and whether extractions or bone grafting come first, so the figure comes from your own scan and is given in writing at the consultation. Most PPO plans are accepted, and financing is available.Cost and financing →
What is recovery like after the surgery?
Most patients are back to normal activity within about a week of implant surgery. Minor discomfort is handled with over-the-counter medication, and you eat soft foods while the implants fuse.
Will I be without teeth during treatment?
Usually not. When a whole arch goes on implants, most patients leave surgery with fixed provisional teeth, and a temporary tooth is worn while a single implant heals.All-on-4 in Alexandria →
Is Duke Street the nearer office for me?
For Alexandria, Arlington, Springfield, Annandale and Burke it usually is. From McLean, Tysons, Vienna or Great Falls, the Tysons Corner office is closer, with the same specialist.Full-mouth reconstruction in McLean →
Can I get a second opinion on a plan I already have?
Yes, at no charge. Bring the plan, the quote and any scans or X-rays another office has taken; the cone-beam scan here shows what the whole mouth needs.
