Dental Implants near Herndon, VA

Several teeth gone? Not always one implant each.

When two or more teeth are missing in a row, each space does not automatically need its own implant. At his Tysons Corner office, about 20 minutes from Herndon without traffic, Dr. Esam Nahlah reads your scan and decides between separate implants and a bridge carried on implants.

For Several Teeth

Two ways to fill a row of gaps, and two for more.

Which fits depends on how many teeth are gone, where they were, and what the bone under them can carry.

One implant per tooth

Each missing tooth gets its own post and its own crown, and the teeth beside each space are left untouched.

Implant-supported bridge

Two posts hold a bridge across a span of missing teeth, so the chewing load goes into the jaw rather than onto the natural teeth next to it.

Snap-in denture

When most of an arch is gone, a removable denture can clip onto two or more implants instead of sitting loose on the gum.

A conventional bridge, or implants under the span?

A conventional bridge hangs replacement teeth from crowns on the teeth at each end of the gap. Those two teeth usually have to be reshaped to carry it, however healthy they are. It stays a sensible fallback for anyone who would rather wait on implants.

An implant-supported bridge takes the same span and rests it on posts in the jawbone. The neighboring teeth stay untouched, and the bone beneath the gap keeps receiving load, which slows the recession that follows tooth loss.

Separate implants give every lost tooth a root of its own. More posts, and each crown stands alone.

Why A Specialist

Several gaps are a prosthodontist's kind of case.

Replacing a run of teeth depends as much on the teeth on top as on the posts underneath, and that design work is exactly what the specialty trains for.

Made in the building

The bridge or crowns are designed and then cut in the lab inside the practice, so shade and shape can be settled face to face.

Balanced across the span

Several new teeth have to meet the opposite jaw evenly, so the same specialist adjusts the bite at the fitting.

Questions

Herndon patients ask about replacing several teeth.

How far is Dr. Nahlah's office from Herndon?
About 11.3 miles, or roughly 20 minutes without traffic by way of the Dulles Toll Road. The office is Suite 220, 7901 Jones Branch Drive, McLean.Directions from Herndon →
Do I need one implant for every missing tooth?
Not necessarily. Two implants can carry a bridge across a span of missing teeth. Whether that or separate implants suits you depends on the bone your scan shows.
Is an implant bridge better than a regular bridge?
It leaves the neighboring teeth alone. A conventional bridge is anchored to crowns on the teeth either side, which usually means reshaping them; an implant bridge rests on posts in the bone instead, and keeps the bone under the gap loaded.Crowns and bridges →
What if most of my teeth are missing?
Then the choice becomes a whole arch: a snap-in denture on two or more implants, or fixed teeth on four to eight implants, such as All-on-4.Full-mouth options →
Does the cost depend on how many teeth are missing?
Yes, along with how long they have been gone, the materials, and whether any teeth must come out or bone be grafted beforehand. Your figure is set in writing once the scan has been read. What drives the price →
Are the new teeth made at the office?
Yes. They are designed in the practice's own lab and cut on its milling machine, so a remake takes days rather than weeks.
